PC-FX is the successor videogame console of PC-ENGINE, which was released by NEC in December 1994. Both NEC and HUDSON started to develop the 32-bit CD-ROM machine as a next generation gaming console in 1992. This console’s greatest feature is that it can play the animation in high speed. actually NEC announced that the company would develop the strategy to focus on the animations, plus the company opened the specification to the public to promote people create the video and videogame software. For this purpose, the company released the various developing circumstance like the SCSI connector and expansion board which can connect to NEC’s home use computer PC-98 series. Although NEC did its best to sell the console and tried to make as good sale record as PC-ENGINE, unfortunately SONY released PLAYSTATION in December and SEGA released SEGA SATURN in November 1994. NEC really had a difficult and tough time in the competitation with the two companies for the next generation videogame sale wars. Finally, the company couldn’t fight against them, its commercial strategy perfectly failed. As the fact, in the 94’s videogame wars, 3D polygon function is the biggest focus and trend of that time, both SONY and SEGA could achieve the requirement in their new consoles, but NEC couldn’t catch up that trend, and NEC and the third parties coulnd’t prepare the content title which could attract the users.
